I bought some DVDs last year. I finally get this email about their unbox videos. While I am on there looking at it I notice that it says I have some free credits. Cool I think. Well after a couple days of wrestling with their software I go back and WTF...no credits. Turns out they expired the same day I got the email. No amount of talking to CSRs would get them to credit them back.

Told them to erase all my information, I won't be doing business with them again. Not that they care, obviously...

Farmers Branch - anti immigrant lease ordinance

Voters approved an ordinance that would prohibit landlords from renting apartments to most illegal immigrants in the Dallas suburb of Farmers Branch.

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the American Civil Liberites Union, which have already sued the city over the regulation, asked for the temporary restraining order in a U.S. District Court.

"It is unfortunate that the residents of Farmers Branch have chosen to implement a law which is not only bad policy, but is likely also unconstitutional," said Lisa Graybill, legal directorfor the ACLU of Texas. "Now the issue will have to be resolved in federal court," she continued.

Motorcyclists again

Oh, the rules don't apply to them, they can just drive on the shoulder to get through traffic jams. What if we all did that? I guess we would just add another lane of backed up traffic.

Big trucks, big jerks

Who insist on staying in the fast lane even when traffic is going 5 miles an hour. Because they take off so slow it just backs up the "fast" lane more than the other lanes which goes against logic but that is the way it is.

Also, I have been coming up in the fast lane only to have one of them cut over right in front of me causing me to have to apply the brakes very hard. They don't care, they know you will do your best not to plow into the back of them.

Used to be that truckers were some of the best drivers on the road, but not anymore.

That is why I give them the same courtesy they give me...none.

Highway signs

You come up on those signs that say this or that lane closing in a mile, 1/2 mile, a 1000 feet, whatever. OK, you make the appropriate adjustments to your travel path and lo and behold you get up there and nothing. Ahh, the brain surgeons they have doing this have forgotten to take down the signs.

Pain meds and docs

Sorry, but having recent back surgery I have a problem with doctors who think they are doing some good by being "conservative" on the pain meds with their patients.

Hey, everyone's pain and threshold for it is different. Don't judge me by some standard other than my own. I am paying the same for a prescription that makes me comfortable or another that does nothing.

I am not some kid that is going to pop the whole bottle with a six pack over the weekend and then call up for some more on Monday.

Radio call ins

These people that call in and then they get to them and as usual it's "hello, hello, hello, hello" before they finally come on. Screw them, hang up after the first hello. Otherwise it's BORING!!!!

You know the dickheads are trying to stay on hold and conduct what they think is some important business like running the cows out to the next field or marrying their daughter off to their 2nd cousin.

All the while thousands of people are having to listen to "hello, hello". The DJs are just as guilty. Hang the F up.

Stupid car commercial

This has to be the dumbest commercial ever if you just stop and think about it. The salesman says if he can't beat another dealers price he will just give you the car.

So wait a second...why would he just give you the car when all he has to do is beat the other price by a dollar or whatever. Right, he might not make as much or he might even lose money. But not as much as giving the car away totally.

Or, he could even buy the other dealer's car and sell it to you for a dollar cheaper and only lose a dollar.

So, I can't think under what circumstances he would ever give a car away. The answer? None. I wonder if you could claim that was false advertising since he talks about a scenario that will never happen.

It just makes me mad because he thinks we are all idiots and that we will believe this B.S.

Music radio stations

They talk more about how they play all the best songs etc. than actually doing it.

While they are going on and on about it you hear all these 1-2 second soundbites of some of the best songs ever. Not a loser in the bunch.

But then when the commercial is over what do they play...CRAP. Some song you never heard of or never liked.

Just another example of the real product not living up to the advertising hype.

Popups and other ads

These stupid sites (like yahoo and msn) with all the flash ads and other stuff hogging resources on your machine and bandwidth. You can't even navigate to where you need to go cause the browser just freezes with all that crap going on. That is when I usually close it and go on to another site without all that garbage.

who think they have life figured out. Give me a break. Don't preach to me just to make yourself feel better. I don't lecture to you about how drinking or smoking dope makes me feel better. LOL.

Talk radio programs

I like these cause it kind of chills me out in the car and lowers my level of road rage. But, give me a break, they do like this 5 minute intro of blurbs and inane music before the show actually starts. Then they take breaks every 10 minutes it seems.

And the show is only on like 4 hours a day. How much actual show do we get after all the breaks and intros etc?

Seems like whether it is a local show or a nationally syndicated one they all have the same methods of wasting time.

They get their premiums from you, no problem.

But when it is time for the money to go the other way, you have deductibles, pre-approval, etc.

Animal Planet

I love watching the pet shows on the Animal Planet channel. I lost my dog last year and it is kind of like therapy for me. One of my favorite is Animal Cops.

It always amazes me and disgusts me when I see one of these animals who have not been fed adequately. Now if you can't afford it you shouldn't have a pet, but I know vet costs can be very high, but what?...you can't even pop for a $12 dollar bag of dog food. Bet you are stuffing your own face well enough.

Commercials

Haven't ranted in a while. You never notice how many friggin' commercials there so much as when you record something and have to fast forward through them. I know it takes a lot of money to finance a good show, but when you hear how much they are getting for a 30 second spot these days, you just wonder where all the money is going. No doubt some fat cat at the top who has really very little to do with the actual production of the show. Makes you wonder too when you see some of the crap that stays on and some of the great shows that get cancelled.

Search Engine Placement

It drives me crazy trying to get some kind of good listing on the search engines and not be buried on 17,115th page or something. This blog is not the first thing I have done on the net and that is always the hardest thing to get over. You can have the neatest site in the universe, but if you don't get listed nobody is ever going to see it. It is like some kind of weird cross between science, voodoo, and just plain sh*thouse luck.

Workplace reviews and raises

Every year this time they come around. The review of your work, where do you want your career to go etc. Its depressing when you see your comments on your career are the same as last year meaning you haven't moved at all. Also you get all the praise in the world, but when it comes back around and you get that crappy raise percentage what are your thoughts?

1) That doesn't even cover the cost of my gas to get here. May be time to check out those hybrid mopeds.

2) Screw those health experts, I mean is it really that important that all the food groups be represented in your daily diet?

3) Uhhh, son, have you given any thought to community college?

4) Looks like I picked a bad week to stop gambling.

As I write this I have not seen it yet, I think it comes on tonight. A show like this can't win though. The religious nuts go crazy saying it is disrespectful to Jesus and the critics give it a thumbs down because it doesn't appeal to some weird humor asthetic that only they seem to possess. They seem to think it always has to have some redeeming message when in the in some people just want to laugh, to escape. Hey, we get enough message in the real world, can't I just take a break for a while. Maybe the real world doesn't intrude on your life in your ivory towers, but for me I get enough of it. Thanks.

Pizza Continued

No word from the manager, so I complained to the corporate headquarters. Got this response from them:

Thank you for taking the time to write Pizza Inn. Let me first apologize for your experience. We pride ourselves on exceeding our guests' expectations, and clearly, we were unable to achieve this for you. Your comments are important to us, and we take them very seriously.

The location, in question, is a franchise-owned store. I will forward your concerns to the owners of this location so they may look into the situation and get with their staff immediately. Your frustration is understandable, but please allow us to address this issue in a timely manner.

Pizza buffet

Sorry, haven't ranted in a while. Been on vacation.

Went by my local Pizza Inn to complain to the manager aboutthe buffet service we received several weeks ago. They were very slow in putting the pizza out. I complained when I paid and the guy told me they had a cook out. Ok, that explains it. But I paid full price for less than full service. So, to me there are two problems that day. One, the bad service, two, that the guy at the register didn't give me some kind of credit or something. The manager wasn't in, but I left my number. Will let you know.

Allergy and cold medicines

Now you can't just buy some of these, you have to get the card and go to the pharmacy, show your driver's license, and sign for them. What a headache, no pun intended. Just because some yahoos were buying the stuff in bulk and cooking up methamphetamine out of it. Just another example of how everyone has to be treated as a criminal because of a few bad apples. Wouldn't be quite so bad, but I went to 3 different stores and they are all out of half of the stuff and didn't have prices on others. The usual BS you have to put with, but now with the added inconvenience of going to the counter. So you still don't have to have a prescription, but it is almost as difficult. So, what used to take 2 minutes now takes 15-20 minutes depending on how busy the pharmacy is. And looking at it from the stores perspective they are now making less money off of these items because it is costing them more labor to deal with the paperwork.

Sick - Yuck

I'm sick, had to go to the doctor. I blame it on people that are sick and insist on coming to work anyway. Whether they feel pressured by management to do so or feel like the place can't run without them all they do is make more people sick and in the long run it costs the company more money. Take a sick day folks, give the rest of us a break!!!

One in every crowd

Seems like no matter what your troubles are there is always someone who wants to tell you about theirs. As if it will make you feel better to know that they have worse troubles than you. The other part that burns me up is that they would think you can compare troubles. Each person's troubles are specific to them.

Illiterate posters

I don't pretend to be Mr. Grammer or anything like that, but I read some posts on some forums and there are some people who obviously don't have any idea how to write what they are thinking. Or maybe they are typing what they are thinking. If so, that isn't just sad, its scary.

It is like they are leaving out words, or misusing words or something. You get disgusted trying to put it through some internal translator in your head and you finally just give up.

And these aren't people to who english is a second language. I can understand then. These are supposedly english speaking people from the US, Australia, or the UK. Hell, some of the people speaking/writing english as a second language do better then these others.

Stores - not enough cashiers

You have to wait in line forever to give them your money. I realize this is the shopping season, but I waited in a line of about 40 people today. I guess they don't care. I started to go somewhere else, but I had already found what I needed and did not want to start all over somewhere else. But then you will hear later how the sales weren't as high as they were expecting, you know, the same old crap we hear every year. I mean when was the last time it was good, the 50s or something? Anyway they will whine that sales were down, when they wouldn't be able to move the people through if they were there. They save a few bucks by staffing short, waste our time, create a little ill will on the part of their customers, then wonder why they go out of business. Say what you want about a big corporation, but the one I have been the most happy with this year has been Walmart. They just seem to have there act together most of the time.

Red Lights

I know I post a lot of stuff about traffic, but I guess that it is one 0f my main complaints of living in the big city. Too many cars, too many inconsiderate buttheads. Ah well, next rant.

Whoever sets some of these redlights up must have their head up their posterior. As much as the talk has been on the gas this year with short supply and skyrocketing prices and there you sit at a traffic light, no one coming in the other direction, burning up that precious resource. Also, I think if there are three lanes the right one should always be turn only. And a blockade built on the otherside to prevent people from breaking the law. Burns me up when we have these laws on the books and there is no enforcement. No, they are all out there trying to catch speeders. What about the jerk in the passing lane going 55. He should get a ticket. The guy going straight from a turn only lane, ticket! The guy trying to make it through the intersection and making the other lanes wait when it changes, ticket. No, No, lets just go pass more laws we won't enforce.

Motorcyclists

Going 90 to nothing whipping in and out of traffic. Must think they are Evil Knievel or something. Every once in a while you see a news report about one dying. Hmmm, wonder why. Doesn't bother me. One less of the jerks on the road.

A little off the beaten rant path...

Seems like 2005 is to be the year of death in my world. Out of respect for those passed I won't go into details, I will just say that it feels like a lot.

I wonder about it sometimes. Not that it isn't a great ride, but it seems like sometimes life is one big struggle of disappointments and hardships until you die. Not sure if these trials are supposed to prepare you for something else. I am not really that spiritual of a person.

I used to endlessly think and worry about death, but then one day I had kind of a revelation about it. Seemed to calm me in a way. And it was simply this. If there is a life after death, great. If there isn't then I won't give a shit, will I?

And speaking of commercials

Is it no wonder that most of us are overweight. It is an epidemic folks. And we are constantly bombarded with these ads from McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, Taco Bell, Taco Bueno. Arrghhh. Everytime I go past one of these places they are packed...So do they really need to advertise that much?

Newspaper delivery late again, 2nd day in a row. Steams me up when I can't read my paper with my morning coffee. When we had the freeze the paper was right on time. That's cleared up and now its late. ????

Grocery/Department Stores - Consideration/Values

I can't stand rude people who bring the whole f'n family to shop and take up so much of the aisles that now one can get by. How you can be so inconsiderate of the many many people you are inconveniencing. Do you own the f'n store or are you just acting like it.

Then there are the people who act like they are going to run you over with their shopping cart. Sometimes they come up behind you fast and get right on you. Hello, I'm walking here, are you blind?? That is when I like to sloooowww down, take my time....and sometimes maybe stop short to look at something interesting. Eventually they will storm off in a huff in some other direction, bringing joy into someone else's life I'm sure.

I don't understand these people, I guess I was just raised different. To respect and be thoughtful of others. But it makes it tough to stick to those values when it seems like most people around you have forgotten or never known what it means to be considerate to a fellow human being.

Well, we had some icy weather here for the last couple of days, cleared up today and I guess the road ragers have some pent up frustration they had to make up for this morning. Bunch of inconsiderate jerks. If you are in that big of a hurry why don't you try getting up a little earlier bubba? Usually it is some redneck in a pickup truck. Guess that is just the hazard of living where I do. Surprises me sometimes we aren't all hip deep in saliva as much as these backward hicks like to spit from vehicles.

Help ourselves first

I was watching the news and it was one of the hurricane victims who was complaining because their situation is basically unchanged from back in August. She was upset that they are now huddling around fireplaces for warmth since it is December. She had a good point that we need to help ourselves at home first before sending millions and billions of dollars overseas to help other victims.

Media Slants

Well, coincidentally in this morning's edition of my local newspaper there is an article about deadbeat Dads. As if because of their motherly nature women are incapable of disregarding their children, not being responsible etc. I'm here to tell you from first hand experience, not so...Mother's can be just as bad or worse.

This is why I titled my previous post "Deadbeat Parents". To acknowledge that it can happen on both sides of the fence. Gee, you would think the newspaper would have to be as balanced as some dumb guy with his own blog, right?

Dead beat Parents

Deadbeat parents who claim to care about their children, but don't pay a dime of child support. The courts are no help because it will just cost you more money to try to collect. They are too busy spending whatever money they have on drugs. That is when they are not in jail or prison. Yet they think just because they are the biological parent they should be given the children by default. They haven't grown up themselves yet they think they can raise another.

Forum moderators

who think they are god and alter and delete posts at will. even if you are careful to follow the rules they always have that last one to fall back on, you know the one that goes "the moderators judgement is final and they run their forums how they see fit..etc.".

Stupid newspaper headlines

There is a blurb in my local newspaper this morning in the business section; it reads along the lines of "Gamestop says XBox 360 supply shortages may hamper sales this holiday season.".

REALLY??!!?? It had never occurred to me that you couldn't sell something that you didn't actually have stock for....wow, I learn something new every day. This must be one of those things they don't teach you in business class.

I know, I know, what they mean is that overall sales could suffer because they don't have the high priced XBox 360 to boost them. But when you read the blurb it looks like an idiot wrote it. Or they think we're idiots. Makes you think you are going to turn to the Health section next and read something like "Doctors warn that not eating could cause starvation".

Krispy Kreme coupon

Over the holiday we get this coupon flyer for Krispy Kreme in the newspaper. There is one that is buy one dozen and get another dozen glazed free. Cool, I think until I look at the fine print. Offer valid only in January it says....WTF???? I mean I like donuts as well as the next guy but I am not going to be able to hold on to this coupon for a month over all these holidays and then still remember that I have it. I don't know what they are thinking and who this is directed at.

I have to think their audience is made of of these groups:

• The donut fanatics are going to show up anyway, they don't need a coupon or an excuse.
• People like me who read and go WTF??? and then chunk it.
• Those people who collect every scrap and save it and use it as they are instructed. Poor fools, what a dismal life.
• Then their are those who don't read so close, cut the thing out, and go down there only to be told its not valid yet. But since they have already told the family they were going for donuts etc. they have to break down and buy them at full price.

Surely it is this last group they are aiming for. It is deceptive advertising like this that really gets me mad. Just like final prices in large bold print and then the numerous rebates you have to do in small print.

The Workplace revisited

Okay, the touchy feely holiday is over so it is back to ranting.

Talking about work, I swear sometimes it is like working with a bunch of kids. My pet peeves in the workplace include:

1) They are tooooo busy to make another pot of coffee after taking the last cup. Like they are too important and their time is so much more valuable than the other several dozen people who are going to walk up and have to waste their time waiting on it to brew. I caught one once, called her @ss on it too. Then of course it was "sorry, i usually do.." ad nauseum. Right, must just be an isolated incident...

2) They leave their dirty dishes and crap in the sink like their Momma is going to come clean up after them. The poor girl who cleans up around her, I am surprised she has not quit to go someplace else. Of Course maybe every office is full of these jerks.

3) Leftover lunches forgotten in the refrigerator so long it reeks and you can't hardly stand to open the door. Then same poor girl has to clean the thing out.

4) Speakphones blasting throughout cubeland as they take care of their personal business yelling at their kids, handling creditors.

Just inconsiderate @ssholes.

The Workplace...don't get me started

There are probably 5 people out of 500 at my work who could do my job. You would think I would be making 6 figures, but noooooo (Thanks John Belushi).

All the while our mother corporation is making money hand over fist, they are laying people off, giving out 3% raises, but yet they are promoting dimwits to director and vice president positions like they were going out of style. I'm surprised some of these people can even find their way to work everyday.

I had always heard you rise to your level of incompetence, but now I know it's true. I guess I am just not incompetent enough. But seriously, it's just because I am not some egotistical salesman BS type person. Oh well, I can only hope karma is real and they will get theirs someday. It just won't be instant. You know "instant Karma"...(Thanks John Lennon)

Rant Requests

Hey, I can't do this all on my own, so if you want me to rant about one of your pet peeves just reply here. Chances are it's one of mine too.

Rebates

I hate rebates. I refuse to buy products with rebates attached to them. I have heard of so many people that get screwed out of their money on these things. Also I have had a couple I never got a dime back on. You mess up one thing and goodbye rebate. I think the whole lot of them should be class action sued for false advertising. It is always the rebate price that is in big print and you have to get your granny specs out to read the fine print.

Unfortunately, one of my favorite things, computers, is one of the worst offenders. Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Frys Electronics. I realize it is the goods makers, not these stores, but the stores do business with them.

I wish I owned an electronics reseller like the size of Walmart or something and I would refuse to stock any manufacturered goods that have rebates attached. But, they will continue to do as long as there are people that fall for it. And of course there are those that have the patience and are of a meticulous nature who might actually get there money back. For me, nope, life's too short, who has that kind of time.

Drivers

What is it with these people who can't seem to figure out that the fast lane is for passing not parking. Idiots!!

EECU

The people who I have my car loan through are a pain in the ass. Every time my insurance renews I get a letter from them saying I have to provide evidence of insurance etc. They have an online way to do it, but the whole thing is just so annoying.

So, out of the blue I get a letter from them saying they sent me a previous notice and I haven't responded and provided it, which was a surprise to me since I have done it every time I get the notice. And it is so threatening, they are going to add thousands of dollars to my loan, my payments will go up hundreds of dollars. Grrrr.

Well, this morning going through the process I notice on the letter they have clobbered my address and pushed two unrelated words together. And above that is the postal line it says street not recognized. Hmmmm, could I have discovered why I didn't get the first letter???

So, went ahead and did the online thing, but I am going to call them later. DIPS!!!

Steve's Rants

Yes, this is a rant page. I come across so much stuff that pisses me off in day to day life I really need somewhere to let it out. This will be it.

Don't know how entertaining it will be, but if nothing else maybe some of you will be able to identify and say "yeah, that pisses me off too." or add rants of your own.
